EMERGENCIES

Call ...........................………………………………………….(530)233-3511 or
Toll Free...................…………………………..1-866-THE-CO-OP (843-2667)

Outages are often caused by broken power lines, damaged transformers or blown transformer fuses. We make every attempt to restore service as soon as possible by dispatching crews to the source of the problem.

If you are unable to get through using the above phone numbers after regular business hours, please report your outage to the Modoc County Sheriff's office at 530/233-4416.

If your power is off, check the fuses or circuit breakers in your home. If everything appears to be in order, check with your neighbors to see if their electricity is off. If you can't solve the problem, please call our office to report the outage. When calling, provide your name, address, and phone number, plus any information you have which will help us locate and correct the problem, such as, account number, or meter number. Then turn off all large appliances. Except in the case of large-scale outages we will attempt to call back to confirm that your power has been restored.

INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE

SVEC attempts to provide continuous, uninterrupted electric service; but cannot and will not guarantee such service, and shall not be liable for injury, loss, or damage resulting from any failure or curtailment of electric service beyond our control.

POWER OUTAGES SAFETY TIPS

SVEC provides electrical safety presentations to school and community organizations on request. Please contact Member Services to schedule a presentation for your group.

Electricity is a clean and efficient source of energy that is readily available. However, if used incorrectly, it can be fatal. Occasionally a hazardous situation may occur involving utility lines. If you notice any of the following situations or any other situation you feel could be hazardous, call our office at 530/233-3511.

If you see…

  • A broken utility pole.
  • A tree limb or kite that has fallen across utility lines.
  • Wires dangling from utility poles.
  • All electric lights out in your neighborhood.
  • A fallen antenna touching or near a utility line.
  • Wires lying on the ground.

…DO NOT GO NEAR THE UTILITY LINES!

Each year, people are injured or killed in accidents involving electricity; many involve CB or TV antennas, aluminum sprinkler pipes and farm equipment. The tragic thing is these accidents can be prevented. SVEC attempts to place power lines in a safe location, but we need your help. Take time to notice where electric lines are BEFORE installing antennas or gutters. Antennas for televisions, CB's or ham radios can fall across electric lines. Look up before raising aluminum sprinkler pipes. Never use a metal ladder when working near electric lines.
Never fly a kite around electric wires. A wet kite string can conduct electricity and cause fatal accidents. Avoid the use of products containing metal, foil, or tinsel on kites.

BUDGET PAYMENT PLAN

SVEC offers a BUDGET PAYMENT PLAN which is designed to make your payments the same each month of the year. To be eligible for the plan, you must be a residential customer, your account must be current, and you must have one year of billing history. The Budget Payment Plan will greatly reduce fluctuations in the amount you are billed each month.

Your monthly payment is determined by averaging the actual amount of energy you used during the previous 12 months. Budget Payment Plans are started in June, and are recalculated once per year. Any changes in electrical consumption or rates are averaged in to the recalculation and can cause the Budget Payment to increase or decrease. Fluctuating weather conditions, and changes in holiday baking, house quests or extended absence from the home, can effect the consumption pattern.
