Service Requirements
MEMBERSHIP
SVEC is a private non-profit cooperative electrical utility owned by the Members it serves.
Customers seeking first time service from SVEC will be required to provide a $5.00 membership fee and a $10.00 connect fee before service is established. A deposit may be required.
NEW ACCOUNTS
New accounts may be opened between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday (except holidays) by visiting or phoning our Alturas office. New applicants for electrical service will be required to sign an "Application for Membership and Electrical Service" form and supply SVEC with information relating to service requirements and the manner in which power will be utilized. In the absence of a signed "Application for Membership and Electrical Service", delivery of service by SVEC, and its acceptance by the customer, shall be deemed to constitute an agreement, and acceptance of our rules and regulations.
DEPOSITS
Since electric service is used prior to meter readings and billing for such service, SVEC may require a deposit as a guarantee. This may be in an amount approximately equal to two times the average bill over the past twelve months. Upon discontinuance of service SVEC will refund the Member's deposit or the balance in excess of the unpaid bills for service. After the member has paid bills for service for twelve consecutive months without having had more than two past due bills, SVEC will refund the deposit on request.
There are a couple of options regarding payment of deposits:
- The required amount must be paid on or before the connect date.
- The customer may provide evidence of prompt payment with a credit reference from the customer's previous electric utility, which covers the past 12 months of electric service.
DISCONNECTING SERVICE
A Member who wishes electrical service discontinued must give notice to SVEC five days in advance of the effective date.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU...
CONTACT US WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT.
You should not rely on a future tenant, landlord or buyer to assume the utility service in their name, thus removing yours. Should the service continue in your name, you would be responsible for the electricity used.
PROVIDE A FORWARDING ADDRESS
REMEMBER that your deposit, if not previously refunded, will be applied to your final bill. Any remaining amount will be refunded to you. In addition, you may be eligible to receive capital credit payments (see "Capital Credits") sometime in the future, so it is important that you keep SVEC advised of your current mailing address.
